During the Christmas festivities, the idea arises of inviting a groupe of poor people and beggars to a great dinner with wealthy families. The project is called "Seat a poor person at your table", and a radio station, through a contest, participates in the idea, to which some popular figures in the film industry are invited. To promote the procession organized to accompany the event, an unhappy individual is hired to publicize it with the van which is his lifeline. However, the problems of payment for his van and the impossibility of being paid quickly for his work cause him serious problems. At the end of the story, a Christmas Carol can be heard. "Mummy, there is a boy shivering at the door. Tell him to come in and warm himself up because in this land charity no longer exists, it has never existed and never will".

Luis García Berlanga
He was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1922. In 1947 he entered the Institute of Filmographic Investigation and Experience where he made two short films and qualified as a Director. In 1951 he co-directed That Happy Couple with J.A. Bardem, with whom he also wrote the script for Welcome Mr Marshall! , which he then directed him-self, winning several prizes at the Cannes Film Festival. In 1963 he made The Executioner which received excellent re-views in Venice. He was a teacher in the Film School and President of the Filmoteca Española. He was awarded various distinctions such as the Prince of Asturias award, the Gold Medal of Fine Arts, Doctor Honoris Causa of the Complutense University, Madrid.
