For Mama's birthday, Jacques booked a good table. His wife said she would be nice. Even his brother promised to come. Everything is fine, tout est bien...

"Right from the beginning I wished for a pretty experimental project centred on the actor's work. Much improvisation around the script. Technical choices follow this logic: lightweight digital video camera (miniDV), minimal and very mobile crew. I tried to 'underdramatize' the classical shooting set-up, making the technique second to the actors. By removing the totem in shape of a film camera that dictates everyone's position, the working pace etc., the filming process became a face to face between individuals. The cameramen and the sound engeneers became actors. The aim was to best transmit the feeling of 'being with' the characters and their problems, in an idea of complicity rather than voyeurism. On every level we tried making a simple and sincere film" (Vincent Pluss).
