TRI BRATA

THREE BROTHERS
by Serik Aprymov
Country: Kazakhstan
Year: 2000
Duration: 85'

Three brothers are living in a little Kazak village. There is an old train station in the village where an old man named Klein works. He tells his young friends that there is a wonderful lake behind the mountains, where life is happy and the women are fascinating. Klein usually accompanies the officers from an air force base there. The brothers and their friends beg him to lead them to the lake, but he refuses. The three then decide to go there alone, but they do not know that the place the old man had pointed out was the target of military exercises for SU-27 fighters.

«This is not a film about children. Rather, it is a kind of fable set in the contemporary world. Old man Klein with his locomotives represents a way of life that no longer exists. Now we are in the Twentieth Century. We have supermodern technologies and a mad rhythm. The SU-27 fighters are an example of this. Nevertheless, there is always a human being in this clash between two centuries who must be responsible for his actions and words» (Serik Aprymov).
