Jean Douchet

Jean Douchet (Arras, France, 1929) studied philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris. In 1957 he began working as a film critic for “Cahiers du cinéma,” a collaboration that lasted until 1964. He then tried his hand as an essayist, writing monographs about Hitchcock, Minnelli and Mizoguchi. In 1962 he began his career as a filmmaker, directing shorts, television programs and educational documentaries. From 1982 to 1991 he was the director of the Cinémathèque française. He now teaches history of cinema, film analysis and set design at the film school La FEMIS.
