The Idiot explores the consequences of what could happen if an organization of killers and saboteurs were able to perfect the mental techniques of mind control. The story is told by its main character, Mike Farrel (codename: Idiot), an agent who works for the secret ITAC organization (Transfer and Control of Identity). The Idiot was hired by a group of right-wing businessmen, known as the League for Decency. His mission, if he accepted it, would be to kill an arm-dealer. He plans to achieve the goal by controlling the thought of one of the victim's bodyguards. Everything follows the plan until our hero finds out that the bodyguards are members of the ITAC, too. At this point things start to go damn bad ...
The Idiot was the last film produced by the group in 1983. It was written specifically for the Fuji Competition, and is affected by some limitations, such as the duration (15 minutes) and the relationship between footage and material used (3: 1) .
Andy had prepared the script with his usual concise and precise style, so as to save us a lot of time. Before shooting there was very little time available to prepare the shooting. Chris Ryan and I prepared something earlier, but everything else was prepared and filmed in the “five-day weekend" on the set. Unfortunately the crew did not have much experience and part of the film that needed a perfect choreography are not as compact as they should have been. In any case, the crew worked very well, Chris gave the best of himself and the everyone was very helpful (I think especially to the Grosvenor House Hotel people).
Although the film has some flaws, I think it is a very good production, with the possibility of developing in a medium-length film or even in a television series (Rob Goldie).
