Alice has turned thirteen and her father Jake has given her a present: a pistol and a lesson at the shooting range. He wants his daughter to learn to defend herself in the adult world. Despite the fact that she detests weapons, Alice tries not to disappoint her father and make him happy by going to shoot. Her precision surprises the onlookers: Alice is happy she has won her father's trust and approval. As they leave the shooting range, the two have to face the real world and things don't go too well...

"The idea for the film came about after I felt how fascinated I was at the idea of shooting a pistol. It happened when I was 16 years old, just once, and the combination of incredible fear and immense power that grabs hold of you when you press the trigger has never left me" (S. Berk).
