Year: 1936
Duration: 10'
During the 1930's, the amateur Lebanese cameraman Benjamin Abrahãao filmed the CangaÇeiros united around their chief, Lampião, in the Sertão. Protected by Father Ciceo and the producer of Cerará Adhemar Bezerra Albuquerque of Aba Filme, he was the only one to win the trust of Lampião and accompanied his tribe for seven years before being assassinated in 1938, leaving his work unfinished. "Just like Major Thomaz Reis filmed amazing images of mythical Brazil in the 1920's, in the '30's the Syrian merchant Abraã Jacó filmed the Sertão, Lampião and his men. These images are perturbing, barbarous, a paradigm of our cinema and of our culture" (J. Berssane).
