Ore d'aria - La vita di Silvia Baraldini

Hours outside: the life of Silvia Baraldini

Country: Italy
Year: 2002
Duration: 58'

Silvia Baraldini tells her story. From protests against the war in Vietnam to the Black Panthers, from accusations of having participated in subversive movements to her long imprisonment, first in the United States, then in Italy. Using archive images and interviews, the documentary shows the various phases of the Baraldini case, trying to understand the motives of what happened and attempting to pinpoint the responsibilities of such inhumane treatment.

"It took twenty years of mobilization on the part of Italian and foreign public opinion - from human rights organizations (Amnesty International) to movements associated with social centers, to the personal intervention of various politicians and judges (including Giovanni Falcone) - to transfer Silvia Baraldini to Italy. The transfer was regulated by a rigid treaty, imposed by the United States and considered unconstitutional by many jurists, which even today prohibits Baraldini from taking advantage of normal rights that Italy allows its prisoners" (A. Bellia).
