John Frankenheimer

John Frankenheimer (New York 1930 ñ Los Angeles 2002) was born and raised in Queens. He tried his hand at acting but ended up enlisting in the U.S. Air Force Motion Picture Squadron. After the war, in 1953, he became assistant director at CBS Television but worked mainly as a cameraman. Over the years, he was promoted to director and moved on to cinema only in 1957 with The Young Stranger. He return to television, where he directed over 150 programs between 1954 and 1960. In 1961 he directed his second full-length film for the screen, The Young Savages and from then on he worked exclusively for cinema.
