20° TORINO FILM FESTIVAL

Piccolo manuale di strategia e tattica militare

Country: Italy
Year: 2002
Duration: 20'

Three ten-year-old boys decide to build a secret military hideout in which, against every basic rule, they can find cognitive certainties and finally talk about things that are less oppressive, a space in which they can hide from the gray world that awaits them. Until it's time to return home.

"In a certain sense, I think it is a way to start life all over again in a new world: cinema. Taking everything chronologically, as though everything were a preparation for future sets. But prosaically, it is also a reaction to Italian cinema, which has lost its desire to tell the truth of children, of their world made of small things, above all to do it with realism. My main characters are caught in an extraordinary moment of passage, too big to continue playing like they did just a few months earlier, but too small to be already interested in what awaits them, in terrible, definitive adolescence" (A. Micciulli).

Biography

film director

Antonio Micciulli

Antonio Micciulli was born in Messina in 1976. He began working at an early age: he was still a minor when he started knocking on the doors of big video game companies to put together the necessary money to create a specialized monthly magazine along the lines of the big national magazines he had been reading. Shortly afterwards, he moved from Cosenza to Rome to work on one of these magazines. In 1996 he began working for the new cinema magazine "Set", writing cover stories and interviews. At the same time, he worked for Radio Italia network as a writer and host on the program Babylon, a daily, twenty minute show dedicated to the world of cinema. He then left his journalistic work in order to write his first screenplay: Piccolo manuale di tattica e strategia militare.
