Poetronica originated in 2001 in the effort to create a television-like line up of programs that includes poets and artists of every discipline. The initiative is produced and sponsored by the city government of Impruneta in the Chianti area near Florence. The activities that are carried out during the year are meant to distribute each edition of Poetronica on the stage and movie theaters all over Italy. Thus Poetronica is a constant laboratory for research and dialogue among the directors that take part in it. It is a kind of hypothetical television where artists gather together even though they work in different ways. Among the objectives of the initiative is the effort to seek out financing for the productions as well as to create a marketing formula for the works that have been produced. In Poetronica 2002 we adopted a scheme for putting together the works in order to make all of them seem like one work only. The humor and the perspectives that each director put into his or her video mixed in with those of the other directors. Most of the works were not edited and others were re-edited in order to make the whole project more homogeneous. We therefore used the method of long-distance directing. Each director sent his own contribution in with a personal note on how he or she wanted it to be edited. We did not introduce the problem of setting up a common overall theme, but each of us wanted to experiment with the fusion of the various feelings created by different artists. The only basic element was the thought that we should feed the calm and impetuous "river" of our own living and that we should express moods through poetronic images, now feeling more alien than ever. This second edition of Poetronica might look like the television of our dreams, a taking stock of the feelings of the Poetronics, who whether they know it or not create while they fish around in the seas of hard news and world events.
