Quatermass and the Pit

Quatermass and the Pit

Country: UK
Year: 1967
Duration: 97'

The third episode (and without a doubt the best) of the adventures of the ingenious scientist. Excavations are underway in London for the underground and absolute evil is awoken. Quatermass was Hammer's first true gothic success in 1956 with The Quatermass Xperiment, based on a popular television series, and is also the leading character in the farewell to the glorious house of English horror with The Quatermass Conclusion, 1981.

Biography

film director

Roy Ward Baker

Roy Ward Baker (London 1916) got his start in cinema as assistant director at Gainsborough in 1934. During the war he worked as a documentary maker and moved on to directing fiction films in 1947 with The October Man. In 1951 he moved to Hollywood, which was not a very successful undertaking, although he did make Don't Bother to Knock in 1952 with Marilyn Monroe. He returned to England and received critical acclaim for A Night to Remember (1958) and The Singer Not the Song (1961), a psychological western. In the 1970's he directed numerous top-level horror movies, including Vampire Lovers (1970). In 1974 he directed on of the last Hammer productions, The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires.
