A world-wide television broadcast of "Mundialito", the most popular soccer tournament of the year. The tension is sky-high, and the stadium is packed. But, if we take a closer look, we see we are at the suburban soccer field of Cecina Mare. The legendary lineup of the soccer team Scarcerarci F.C. is made up of prisoners and social workers. The grand final has begun. The leading characters intersperse their stories with the more spectacular action on the field, the various portraits dovetail with the game's running commentary. The epic story of a chaotic summer soccer game becomes a trip into the darkness of the world of prisons.
"There are almost 60 thousand prisoners in Italy, in a system that is capable of supporting half that many. Sports and professional preparation are reduced to the bone. Psychotropic drugs are liberally prescribed to keep the bad guys ègood'. Wine and drugs make the rounds with few impediments, completing the daily stupor. Mechanisms for curing true illnesses are perversely slow. The cafeteria meal plans don't take into account religions with eating requirements different from Catholicism. The penitentiary personnel, which is under-staffed, under-paid and unprepared, has basically only custodial duties. Almost always, people come out of prison worse off than when they entered. Could it be that something isn't right?" (Mojito Film).
