This Is Not a Love Song

This Is Not a Love Song

Country: UK
Year: 2002
Duration: 94'

Spike and Heaton are a very unusual couple: two lonely people who have found each other. Heaton is taciturn and inscrutable. Spike, on the other hand, is happy and irrepressible. When Spike commits a terrible crime, Heaton decides to help him. The two end up fleeing to northern England, crossing heaths and immersing themselves in a countryside full of rivers and dark forests. Spike and Heaton aren't being followed by the police, but by a group of farmers who want to get revenge on them. Heaton is wounded in the leg. The farmers are about to catch up with them; at this point Spike has to decide whether to remain with his friend or abandon him and take refuge in the city.

"This is a story of both violence and tenderness, so I wanted to create a style with DV that lifted the film beyond gritty realism into something more lyrical. Rather than strive to mimic film, I was looking for another aesthetic" (B. Eltringham).
