The saunterings of the "Characters" (a dozen
People) who come and go, pass each other, meet up, or don't, accompany the
rhythm of the landscape of the Grand littoral area in Marseilles (a vast,
emptylandscape hemmed in by different urban areas, a plateau overhanging the
port which evolves as a central point of orientation for new townplanning in
Marseilles). These are scripted scenes played out, but also moments stolen from
encounters between the characters themselves and between the characters and the
place.
"I don't visualize cinema as fiction or documentary. I could speak
of composition, of the musical structure of images; it is in this sense that the
film slowly took form in my spirit. In fact, the music brought together reality
and notions of fullness, of emptiness, of rhythms, of temporality… I have always
had a relationship with images based on this abstraction, on which reality is
constructed" (V. Jouve).
