A bit of coastline between North and South Korea. Soldiers guard the border from a military base. One night, as a young couple makes love in the demilitarized zone, an over-zealous soldier sees them and, mistaking the man for a spy, kills him. The woman, who sees her lover shot in the forehead and blown up by a hand grenade, will never recover from the shock. The soldier who killed the man is also in a state of shock and is discharged. As he travels back to Seoul he realizes what he has done. Tormented by guilty feelings, he can't fit back into normal civilian life and returns to the base, where his mind degenerates until he is transformed into a homicidal phantom.
