After thirty years from the release of the film
Diario di un maestro by Vittorio De Seta, we have come back to the places
of shooting to discover the stories of the characters of that time and to
describe the social-anthropologic change that has happened in this period of
time. Through their testimonies we can reconstruct the experience of Diario
di un maestro, in personal and historical-social terms. In fact, the stories
of the "Malestanti" (that's how the boys in the film at the time called
themselves) tell the phenomena and the social changes that have characterized
the poor neighbourhoods of Rome in the last thirty years.
"The
availability and sincerity that the boys from Diario have shown telling
their stories, even the most difficult ones, have left us helpless; from their
words and gestures an extraordinary dignity has emerged, rare to be seen even in
much luckier people. This is the aspect that we really care about, and we hope
we have been able to preserve it and present it in our documentary" (C. Di
Mambro, L. Mandrile, M. Venditti)
