Looney Tunes: back in action

Looney Tunes: back in action

Country: USA
Year: 2003
Duration: 90

After saving the world with Michael Jordan's help in Space Jam (1997), the Looney Tunes return to the silver screen directed by Joe Dante. Ever since the Gremlins, and in particular Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), the American director has sought inspiration in Warner Bros. cartoon characters, which he finds more caustic than the Disney characters. In a universe where Looney Tunes live in the same real world as humans, Daffy Duck quits his job at a Hollywood studio because he feels like Bugs Bunny gets all the attention. Daffy teams up with Bobby, a recently-fired stuntman who wants to find his father's mythical lost Blue Diamond. Soon, the duo are traveling from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, and across the world, from America to Africa, with a studio executive and Bugs Bunny hot on their tail, trying to get Daffy to come back to his Hollywood career.

Biography

film director

Joe Dante

Joe Dante (Morristown, New Jersey, 1948) studied at the Philadelphia College of Art. He made his first full-length film in 1968, a 420-minute-long experimental film made by editing B-movie clips: The Movie Orgy. Public recognition of his artistry arrived with Piranha (1978) and The Howling (1980), in which the director interprets horror in a modern key. In 1984 he made Gremlins for Steven Spielberg, followed by a sequel in 1990. His two films The Second Civil War (1997) and Small Soldiers (1998) were parodies of war. In 2003 he made Looney Tunes: Back in Action with the famous Warner Bros. characters; the film premiered in Italy at the Torino Film Festival.
