Thirty-year-old Adrian visits his girlfriend Wanda's family to ask
her hand in marriage. Wanda lives with her mother and her two sisters,
Marta, who is married to Tadeusz, and Basia, the mother of little
Alicja. Adrian's request is turned down because of his tumultuous past,
but his presence upsets the delicate equilibrium in the household.
Marta, who is having marital problems, is attracted to him, and Basia,
who has never revealed the name of the father of her child, has a
diabetic attack following a violent discussion and dies. Some time
later, Adrian, Wanda, Marta and Tadeusz meet up again and the conflicts
between them are ready to flare up again dramatically.
"My life has changed and nothing is like it used to be. I was terrified
of it, and at the same time I tried to tame it. It was clear to me that
other than death, changes are the only certain thing in life. Taming
this fear was the idea behind this film - a film about the changes going
on around us and within us" (L. Barczyk).
