Since the opening of the Eurotunnel in 1997, the amount of people
fleeing conflicts and poverty trying to look for a future in Great
Britain has become bigger and bigger and it is concentrated on the
territory of Pas de Calais. After months in which the streets of Calais
were packed with refugees, the French government has decided to create a
reception camp to improve this situation of poverty. In Sangatte one
only needs to turn up to get three meals a day, hygienic facilities,
clothes and a bed. Along the paths of clandestine, the existence of
Sangatte has soon become famous, and more and more people have chosen to
exploit it as a place to stop while waiting to cross the Channel.

Federico Ambiel
Federico Ambiel (Novara, 1975), after graduating in Modern Literature, Theatre History and Dramatic Arts at Milan university, between 1997 and 2000 attends the Civica Scuola di Cinema in Milan, graduating as director of photography, cameraman and filmmaker. In 1999 he founds with Andrée Rossi Maroso an independent video-production company, Lilithwork, where he produces his works. In September 2003 he has been chosen by the Scuola Holden in Turin for the workshop with Abbas Kiarostami.
