The Phenix City Story

The Phenix City Story

Country: USA
Year: 1955
Duration: 100

Phenix City, Alabama: idealistic lawyer John Patterson, who has just returned from the Korean war, tries to rid the city of growing crime and corruption after his father Albert, a Democratic senator who was elected public prosecutor, is murdered at the orders of the boss Reth Tanner. This noir semi-documentary is very violent by the standards of the time. The film reconstructs a true murder, mixing fiction and historical reality: on the one hand it uses situations and atmosphere that are typical of detective stories, on the other it makes explicit use of news stories with authentic inserts taken from newsreels and interviews with real people, creating a background that suggest various key points to the story.
