Today is Giulia's thirtieth birthday. A solitary spectator at this event, she watches the day go by. In hopes of escaping her odd mood, she goes out that evening to her friend Astrid's party, looking for the others.

Winterspleen is the story of a failed gesture, that of Giulia and her friends, who can't get close to each other. We show this impossibility with involvement, but without pathos, with minimalist screenplay and dialogs, a spare staging and editing which tends toward the imperceptible. Glamour plays an important part in the film. This element expresses the ambivalence of the leading characters, who are torn between the desire to please and to achieve recognition, and the need to protect themselves through a sort of self-production, which can only aggravate the isolation of each one of them. All these elements come together to describe the sense of lacking which pervades our characters, as expectation is consumed and desire remains unsatisfied" (F. Farellacci, L. Lamanda).
