"When I was a little girl, my Italian grandmother used to read out loud the letters that she received in Chile from her relatives still in her home country. This was our own familar ritual, which was stored in my memory. This is the letter to send to my grandmother, scrambled pages of a personal diary, my everyday life in a strange country. This film is a letter, from London towards Latin America, in a last attempt to recover an ancient family ritual." (T. Panizza)
"Photography, cinema and video are different formats that have helped us to preserve the past; however, far from transforming archival images into objective and unchanging facts, they require that such images be interpreted and placed in a context to fill in the fragmented pieces of what we call identity. Therefore, a bridge should be built based on new materials, i.e. the poetic structure, a challenge that was to lead me to explore free visual association, rhythm, and improvisation. In this regard, the poetic style sought for in Dear Nonna is strongly related with post-modern poetry." (T. Panizza)
