If it's all right, with you and with me, if it's convenient for you, we could meet on Sunday the 15th… and go… go to the lake… all the way to Bellagio. Have I told you about this place?
"This film had no subject, just like none of my other films had one either. There are no intentions, only shots which assert themselves on their own, independently of a project, in relation to the picture that presents itself. This is what brings about the shot and, first of all, puts the camera on the tripod. To this first shot, which has no relation to anything else, if not to the present moment, other shots will later be added. And then it can be seen that there is a correspondence, relationships, between them. And without knowing yet what it is about, thanks to these relations, it is already the presage of a film. The subject, or in other words, the story, doesn't come first. It can't come first and this is why there can't be a project, because otherwise it would mean that the images exist in the head and one begins with the intention of making them correspond to the shots. […] The subject can't be at the beginning. It can only be at the end. Herein lies the very reason of the film. If the subject is known, there's no reason to make the film. When the subject can be seen, the film exists, it already has its law and it is discovered afterwards» (J-C. Rousseau).
