By chance, two girls find themselves entering the same main entrance. They look
at each other. Do they know each other? It doesn't seem that way. They go up the
stairs together, they smile at each other and stop in front of the same door.
They look at each other once again. They ring the doorbell. A young man opens
the door, looks at them, smiles for an instant and closes the door. This is the
beginning of Illuminations, a film which shamelessly observes the outcome of a
duel for love.
"Illuminations is, above all, field research,
a comedy in an improper sense. The type of comedy that can turn into a tragedy,
while conserving the characteristics of a comedy. What I wanted to do in this
work was tell a simple story, a recognizable one, using direct cinematographic
language which can help the spectators relate. Real men and women who deal with
the reality around them, without ever losing their sense of irony. People who
speak in a way that is real, credible and, above all, comprehensible to

Biography

Bruno Bigoni
(Milan, Italy, 1950) in 1979 was one of the founders of the Filmmaker Festival. In 1983, he and Kiko Stella codirected his first film, Live. In 1987, he directed the documentary Nome di battaglia: Bruno and in 1990, he, Minnie Ferrara, and Kiko Stella founded Minnie Ferrara & Associati. His most recent documentaries include Oggi è un altro giorno; Amleto... frammenti; Faber; Comizi d’amore 2000; Chi mi ha incontrato, non mi ha visto and, in 2017, My War Is Not Over, many of which were presented at the TFF. In 2019 he directed with Francesca Lolli Voglio vivere senza vedermi, presented out of competition at TFF and Filmmaker, Milan. TFF also presented his film Tre donne, di Sylvia Plath, co-directed with Francesca Lolli.
