Abbas Kiarostami presents at the Torino Film Festival a selection of the short-lenght films realized together with the students of the workshop in directing that took place on September 19th-28th 2003 in the Holden School on the occasion of the manifestation On the Road of Kiarostami. Cinema/photography/video/poetry organized by the National Museum of Cinema in collaboration with Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.

Abbas Kiarostami

Abbas Kiarostami was born in Tehran in 1940. As a child he showed an unusual talent for drawing, and won various prizes. In 1958 he left home and began working as a graphic artist, creating the opening credits for numerous films. He later attended the Academy of Fine Arts and, in 1968, he founded the department of cinema at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young People. In 1970 he began directing short and full-length films. His film, Dov'è la casa del mio amico? (1987), made him world-famous. In 1997 he won the Golden Palm at Cannes with Il gusto della ciliegia and in 1999, the Special Jury's Grand Prize in Venice with Il vento ci porterà via.
