Bona is a middle-class schoolgirl who leaves home to work as a kind of slave to the man she loves, an aging feckless gigolo who treats her appallingly and eventually dumps her. The meek little Bona, however, exacts a terrible revenge.
"Bona took a long time to make because we didn't have the capital, the leading character herself was producing the film and she didn't have any money. She made commercial films and after being paid she bought negatives, virgin film. […] Back then we shot 2, 3, 4 days a month and that took a long time because there were several months between the phases of shooting. […] I completely changed the concept of the love. I thought the original screenplay was too ordinary, that it would have become the story of an Adele H, an obsessive love. I told myself, 'This goes beyond love as an obsession, the passion of this girl, the intensity of her emotions go beyond this.'" (L. Brocka)
