Evolution of a Filipino Family

Country: Yugoslavia
Year: 2004
Duration: 643âââ

Over 10 years in the making, with a stop-and-go shooting schedule caused by budget problems, and one year of editing. The film is a true voyage through the Philippines on a social, cultural and political level. The epic saga stretches over 15 years and embraces the Marcos regime (1971-1987), with a narrative structure that changes as the story unfolds and alternating sequences in video and film. The film follows various members of the Galiardo family, in particular the grandson Raynaldo, as he evolves from a country boy raised in the jungle into an adolescent urbanite.

"We can't just stand by and watch corruption in politics and the economy, we can't remain apathetic and passive. We must show this dark period of our country in order to correct its vision and, therefore, the conscience and the thinking of our people. We must openly confront our past for a better future." (L. Diaz)
