Biography
film director
Tobe Hooper
Tobe Hooper (Austin, 1943) made his first film with his family's 8 mm camera at the age of three. Throughout his childhood, he continued to make movies and spend as much time as he could in a movie theatre. In 1974, he helped radically rewrite the horror genre with his classic film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Then he directed other successful features, such as the TV movie Salem's Lot, based on the Stephen King's book, and Poltergeist (1982), which spurred two sequels and a television series. In 1996 he directed Dark Skies, a pilot for an NBC science series which received an Emmy nomination. In 2002 he directed the pilot episode of the series "Taken", produced by Steven Spielberg for the Sci Fi Network.
