Le prestige de la mort

The Prestige of Death

Country: France
Year: 2006
Duration: 75'

Taking advantage of the scoop about his death, a filmmaker trades his passport for the passport of a corpse that was found at a construction site. But the body doesn’t belong to an ordinary person…

“My preceding film, Les Naufragés de la D17, owed much of its evolutionary and game-like structure to The Road to Yesterday (1925), the masterpiece by Cecile B. De Mille. It’s the plot of another film by the same director, The Whispering Chorus (1917), that directly inspired my film, Le Prestige de la Mort. My film develops a very up-to-date theme, since it was recently presented in Bellocchio’s Il regista di matrimoni. The story, which in De Mille’s film was dramatic, is treated like a farce in this one. Since I was hardly ever present in Les Naufragés de la D17, I am in almost every shot in Prestige, in which I portray… Luc Moullet.” (L. Moullet)
