Rew e Shade

Rew and Shade

Country: Italy
Year: 2006
Duration: 33'

Rew and Shade are 18 years old. As they stand in a bus they improvise to rap rhythms, freely dialoging about life, solitude, religion, politics, the city they live in, Turin.

“In normal battles, rappers challenge each other, improvising insults; they usually have a minute of time each, an audience that votes and a very loud beat base that accompanies them. We asked Rew and Shade to improvise as they followed an outline of ‘subjects,’ a sort of plot, putting aside the normal free style rules. Thus, they found themselves talking about their world, mixing theater and life, performance and speech, poetry and insults. The result is a portrait of two young men, their fears, their hopes, their lives, in which free style becomes pure language, screams, sentiment and confession.” (G. De Serio, M. De Serio)
