The Guatemalan Handshake

The Guatemalan Handshake

Country: USA
Year: 2006
Duration: 96'

In the confusion following a massive power outage, a demolition derby driver vanishes, setting in motion a series of events affecting his father, his pregnant girlfriend, a pack of boy scouts, a roller rink employee, an elderly woman in search of her lost dog, and his best friend - a 10-year-old girl named Turkeylegs. Pieces of the mystery begin to come together as Turkeylegs sets out to find her missing friend.

"In The Guatemalan Handshake it was my intention to create a film that would feel as if it came from an undiscovered corner of America; that pulled inspiration from music, comic books, paintings, children's stories and original personalities rather than referencing scenes, dialogue and styles of other films. It is my hope that a young musician finds a copy of my film 50 years from now and writes a song about it. Then, 50 years following that recording, a filmmaker hears that song and is inspired to create a new kind of film." (T. Rohal)
