A Londoni Férfi

The Man from London
by Bela Tarr
Country: Hungary, France, Germany
Year: 2007
Duration: 135'

Maloin works as a shunter in a train station near the sea. One night, while working, he witnesses a fight between two men that ends up in a homicide and a runaway assassin. When he goes to pick up the deceased’s suitcase, Maloin discovers that it’s full of money and finds himself unwillingly involved in a dangerous situation that will force him to find a way out, as he maneuvers between the police investigations, the murder’s search for the lost suitcase and his difficult relationship with his wife and adolescent daughter.

“Maloin’s story is our story. Personally I feel it particularly as my own, familiar and close, unfriendly and harsh, just like the surroundings in which it is played out.The film’s tone is thus personal, each frame reflects how I see the world and through its simplicity of style, I am trying to bring to life the complexity of Maloin’s working-class surroundings, with as much authenticity and affection as possible […] I am convinced that Maloin’s story belongs to all that have the courage to preserve their human dignity.”
