An intimate portrait of a small rural community in a part of Colombia entirely controlled by paramilitary forces, rendered through the eyes of the children who grow up there, and are often forced into very difficult choices. The documentary follows the young protagonists in this problematic setting through an entire school year, exploring some of the realities that nurture and perpetuate the violence in Colombia. “Colombia is not a foreign country to me. For twenty years, having decided to share my life with a Colombian, the country has become part of my existence, and I spend many months a year there. The school on the banks of the Don Diego is only a half-hour walk from a small plot of land, in the middle of the mountains, which we have bought some years ago. Over the years my relationship with the community has become deeper. Some of these children that I have seen grow up, over the years transformed into hardened adolescents, today provoke complex feelings within me.”

Enrica Colusso
(Rome, 1962) went to University (Film Studies) in Rome and in 1988 moved to Paris, where she attended workshops at Ateliers Varan, the Jean Rouch school of documentary. In 1995 she graduated in Documentary Filmmaking from the National Film and Television School of London. She made several documentaries among which two feature films, Fine pena mai (1995), winner of Director Grant at Sulmona Cinema Giovani, Best film at San Benedetto del Tronto and at Maremma Doc, and Chi non rischia non beve champagne (2001-02), Special Mention at Festival dei Popoli in Florence. Since 2003 she teaches Documentary Filmmaking at Roehampton University
in London.
