An old, lonely man, a philosopher and expert cook, is dying in a hospital room after suffering a heart attack. In a combination of dreams and reality, past and present, he thinks about the meaning of his life, about love and about death. The only witness-spectator of this reflection of his is a young Bulgarian nurse. Maybe things happened in a completely different way, but what’s important is that they happened.

“What struck me in the short story by Egi Volterrani wasn’t the memory of lost affections, or the regret and nostalgia for them, but his philosophy about life and death. There was the desire to try to relive certain emotions like love, sex, embracing another human being without being rebuffed. What interested me was depicting the part that is considered scandalous, that isn’t accepted by current morality. And then, it’s even more scandalous if it’s an old man telling the story and if he falls in love with a young woman as his life is ending. I think that love and sexual desire in old age are a way of opposing death.”
