Grant and Fiona have been happily married for fifty years, but their serenity is disturbed when they discover that she has Alzheimer’s and she is taken to a retirement home. Here she meets Aubrey, another patient, and she slowly forgets her husband, who powerlessly witnesses the bond growing between Aubrey and his wife. But when Marian, Aubrey’s wife, takes her husband out of the clinic, Fiona becomes depressed, and her conditions rapidly worsen. At this point Grant commits a real act of self-denial and allows his wife to be happy one last time. “Love stories about older people tend to be either extremely sentimentalized or justified by a million flashbacks to when they were young, which I think is a lot less interesting. […] I wanted to make this relationship a real one that’s been through incredible things and come out the other side. It’s made up of all that experience and emotion and
transgression.”

Sarah Polley
(Toronto, Canada, 1979) is an actress and she worked with Atom Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter, 1997), David Cronenberg (eXistenZ, 1999), Michael Winterbottom (The Claim, 2000), Kathryn Bigelow (The Weight of Water, 2000) and Isabel Coixet (La vida secreta de las palabras, 2005). In 1999, she made her directional debut with the short The Best Day of My Life, and then wrote and directed Don’t Think Twice. In 2001, she wrote and directed I Shout Love, and in 2002 The Harp, episode of “The Shield Stories” for television.
