Crime in the Streets

Crime in the Streets

Country: USA
Year: 1956
Duration: 91'

Frankie Dane, a misfit adolescent who is the head of a street gang, wants to get his revenge on a man who turned one of his companions in to the police. Backed up by his gang and enraged for having been publicly humiliated by the man, Frankie decides to commit his first murder. Frankie’s younger brother tips off a neighborhood welfare worker, who tries to stop the young man, involving his mother and the parents of two other gang members, naïve and insecure Baby and Lou.

“We had no more than two weeks to make that picture and we thought it would be a disaster, but it turned out well and I liked the picture. Don worked well with actors, crew, and everyone. He has an overwhelming personality and a tremendous sense of fun coupled with a disregard for authority – all of which shows in his face. He never falls into the trap that most directors fall into: lack of preparation. When he comes on a
picture he knows what he wants, but is flexible enough to accept good contributions from actors or crew.” (John Cassavetes)
