Five young Japanese cyclists travel to Burkina Faso to participate in the most important African stage race, the Tour of the Faso. This is a film about the clashing of two completely different worlds. The structured and monotonous lives of the young men in the Japanese team, not to mention the cold climate of Japan, are in stark contrast with the African reality. Nothing could have prepared these young men for the journey that lay ahead. The race turned out to be a grueling emotional and physical experience. “It’s only during the editing phase that the most interesting moments and situations are selected and chosen. The ones that, in this type of improvisational cinema, are brought together through assonance or contrast and become the film’s narration. Reality, full of stories, happiness, tragedies, but above all, of existential details, is filmed because of its spontaneity and originality. A documentary-like approach to understand the complexity of the world through the most simple and direct method of investigation: observation.”

Giovanni Giommi
giovanni giommi (Milan, Italy, 1965) studied at the Scuola civica di cinema in Milan, before working as a writer, producer and director for the TV channels Tele + and Mtv Italia. He then made Nel cuore delle alghe e dei coralli - I cento passi di Peppino Impastato, which he shot during the production of the film One Hundred Steps (2000) by Marco Tullio Giordana. He next directed Beisbol and in 2005 he began collaborating with Massimo Coppola on the TV series of TV Avere ventanni. The following year, he presented Politica Zero at the Torino Film Festival and in 2007, always at the TFF, his film Les ninjas du Japon won the Avanti! award. Parafernalia was selected for the Locarno Film Festival and for the 2008 Courmayeur Noir Film Festival.
