After spending a year in a juvenile delinquency center for brutally beating his stepfather, Todd re-enters his hometown as a deeply religious, non-violent boy. Refused from his mother and all members of the community, his faith ultimately tested when he learns that his best friend Michael, the only person who wants him to stay in town, is deathly ill, and his family refuses to seek medical attention in favor of following God to heal him. “I’d written a character with strong similarities to the iconic Western hero. Todd resembles the outlaw with a dark past who, coming into town on horseback, returns to settle his old scores. [...] Every creative decision was governed by an attitude that it was shooting an actual Western. Only, our gun-slinging outlaw is an eighteen years old boy with violence problems and instead of the dry, open terrain of the Wild West, we are in a conservative, backwoods, middle-American town. I think that in the combination of these elements something newer emerges, an energy more alive.”

Justin Lerner
(Pennsylvania, USA, 1980) is the son of two developmental psychologists, one Catholic and one Jewish. He attended a Quaker school in Pennsylvania until the age of eleven. He got his BA Theatre Arts/Film at Cornell University and, after graduating, he spent a year in Spain teaching English and as a writer. He just received his MFA in Directing at UCLA’s Graduate Film School and his thesis short film, The Replacement Child, was named Best of 2007. His films have played at the Tribeca Underground Film Festival, LA Shorts Fest and Newport Beach Film Festival. He currently lives in Los Angeles where he is an advisor to Voice Film Institute.
