“I’m a hermit living on an island.” This is what Patrick writes about his life as an autistic child imprisoned in his own body. With the wisdom of a thinker and with the doubts and dreams of a teenager, Patrick accompanies us through a journey in his own interior world, showing us his most personal side and pushing us to reflect about what it means being “different.” “When can we say we really know a person? Is a verbal exchange necessary or is it enough to observe one’s body language to get closer to the other person? With Patrick, these theories lose all meaning. The words he ‘speaks’ and his body tell us about his handicap, but they don’t give us any information about his essence. […] When we compare Patrick’s images and his texts, the great contrast between his fascinating and mysterious internal world and his uncoordinated body becomes evident. […] During the conversations with Patrick, I would watch him typing his texts letter by letter and, in the end, I was surprised to see how all these letters would slowly elaborate his thoughts."

Ingrid Demetz
(Bolzano, Italy, 1983) graduated in 2002 from the School of Commercial Graphic Arts in
Bressanone; she then worked and studied in the Psychology Department of the University of Innsbruck until 2004. In 2005 she started working as a freelancer for the video production company Karbon Videoproduktion and, until 2007, she studied at Zelig-Documentary, Television and New Media School in Bolzano, specializing in Direction and Project Development.
