Sophie’s life is spent taking care of her sick father, Richard, an alcoholic
who is throwing away his life. The girl feels a moral obligation toward
him and every weekend she goes to visit him, trying to help him out
in his everyday tasks. Sophie needs affection and holds on tightly
to her relationship with Jérôme, a lazy and irresponsible young man
who doesn’t seem to share her love.

“We wanted to present two parallel stories in this film. We tried to
observe Sophie discretely, without becoming judgmental or transmitting
a precise morality. We opted for observation, for hard and penetrating
images that evoke the sometimes austere, sometimes luminous beauty
of ordinariness and disillusion. We wanted to explore the intimate point
of view that guided us and suggested which images to show.”
