SPECIAL SCREENINGS

FRANCO CRISTALDI E IL SUO CINEMA PARADISO

Country: Italy
Year: 2008
Duration: 100'

Thanks to the contribution of screenwriters, directors and autors
like Suso Cecchi D’Amico, Rosi, Tornatore, Bellocchio, Monicelli,
Nichetti, Pontecorvo and Morricone, who, along with many others,
collaborated on the films produced by Franco Cristaldi, we have traced
the story of one of the most important producers of Italian films.
Between the 1950s and the early ‘90s, Cristaldi made over one
hundred films, first for Lux Film, then for his company Vides and
afterwards for CristaldiFilm. Three of his films were Oscar winners,
Amarcord, Divorce - Italian Style and Cinema Paradiso, and he
also had other great successes like Big Deal on Madonna Street,
Kapò
and Salvatore Giuliano.

“The kilometers of film produced over many years of passion and
commitment talk of Franco Cristaldi. As does the very history of our
best cinema, beginning in the 1950s. Franco used to say that ‘every film
must be a prototype’ and this is why he experimented with various
methods, exploring themes and stories in which genres intermix
and follow each other, without ever letting himself be won over
by the repetitiousness generated by success and the market.”
