passers-by: the street and the bars, the encounters and the solitude,
the loves and the missed meetings.

“Making Un Jour à Marseille (2006) was an important passage
for me: from a subjective look to the evidence of reality captured as it
unfolds, from autobiography to reverse shots of the lives of others, with
a shared work method characterized by the absence of a screenplay,
of waiting for a moment when the world opens up. Marseille was
followed by Lisbon and Madrid, recounted from the picture frame
of a window over the space of a day. They are my ‘dailies,’ the opposite
of those of commercial films, the reverse of simple materials, set up
and unedited: to give value back to the sublime saying by André Bazin,
‘the image counts in the first place, not for what it adds to reality, but
for what it reveals.’”
