IL GRANDE PROGETTO

THE GREAT PROJECT

Country: Italy
Year: 2008
Duration: 71'

In 1996, the municipality of Naples approved a project of urban
upgrading to reconvert the former industrial site of Bagnoli and create
a low-density housing complex offering high environmental quality.
The president and the general manager of Bagnoli S.p.A., the
company carrying out the project, supervise the works and dialog with
the institutions, the mayors and the press, while Biagio, a thirty-yearold
construction worker, builds the city’s future with his crane.

“The protagonists’ participation in the project was fantastic and this
permitted me to enter a room that is usually closed. This will allow the
spectator to understand the complexity hiding behind the construction
of a ‘major work.’ In such a difficult moment for the city of Naples,
it is a rare opportunity to see the politicians at work, intent on carrying
out a big project that offers the city a hope for renewal instead of
battling to stem serious emergency situations.”
