THE EDGE OF LOVE

THE EDGE OF LOVE

Country: UK
Year: 2008
Duration: 110'

London, 1941. During an air-raid the poet Dylan Thomas meets his
childhood sweetheart, Vera Phillips, after ten years. She’s a singer, while
he’s churning out propaganda scripts for government. The ancient
passion revives, but the poet is now married with Caitlin and Vera
has a relationship with the soldier William Killick. In spite of the love
rivality, the two women become friends. The situation gets more
complicated when William is posted abroad and Vera moves to
Wales with Dylan and Caitlin.

“With Love Is the Devil I tried to avoid the usual pitfalls of biopic
language, and also The Edge of Love isn’t a usual biopic; it’s about
a four-year period during the Second World War, and Dylan happens to
be a character. His poetry does appear in the film, almost like a Greek
chorus echoing elements of the storyline, but I don’t think it’s really a
film about Dylan Thomas, it’s about the women and their relationships
– the close bond that forms between them is damaged almost by their
commitment to the men in their lives.”
