THE SUN AND THE MOON

THE SUN AND THE MOON

Country: UK
Year: 2007
Duration: 60'

In an isolated country house, an elderly woman and a girl are forced
to confront the “other,” a deformed and fearsome man. Increasingly
locked within their personal isolation and terrorized by the menace that
seems to be looming over them, the two women must decide whether
they should take part in the annihilation of the man or if they should
carry out a final gesture of pity and compassion.

“In The Sun and the Moon, a man, abject and monstrous, a young
woman and another more ambivalent figure: a woman, the bridge
between the former extremes, are caught in their own isolation,
fearful of each other. Juxtaposing the interior with natural form,
the sublime and the abject, I wanted to forge spartan and yet richly
dramatic imagery into a narrative of a well known fairytale. The film,
as a personal interpretation of Beauty and the Beast, enciphers
concerns, beliefs and desires in seductive images that are themselves
a form of camouflage, making it possible to utter harsh truth.”
