Twenty-one years after Empire
of Passion, the last film Oshima shot
in Japan, he returns to his homeland
to shoot Gohatto, even though he is still
suffering from the effects of the stroke
he had three years earlier. He finds
Beat Takeshi, Yoichi Sai and Ryuichi
Sakamoto on the set. During the
shooting, “Beat” Takeshi has to leave
for Cannes to present his own film.
Oshima remembers his experiences
at the Cannes Film Festival.
