MAYBE THINGS WILL CHANGE
Neda is a fifty-year-old Roman woman who grew up in the old part
of the city, right near the Colosseum. But today she no longer lives
in her old neighborhood. She lives in Ponte di Nona, in the heart of
the “new center” on the outskirts of Rome. Sara, too, lives and grew
up in Ponte di Nona; she is eighteen years old and is one of the few
girls there who has had the chance to go to high school. Through the
words of the two women, the political dynamics behind the creation
of new residential estates emerge: neighborhoods condemned to decay
and neglect, constructed without any infrastructure, public
transportation or areas to gather in.

“I tried to create a story to express my distress and rage. A story that
can silently follow the lives, the thoughts and the discovery of marvelous
people like Neda, Sara and the other inhabitants of Ponte di Nona
who agreed to participate in the film. A silence that is willing to
understand, but also simply curious to see, to search for the wounds
and the injustice in this reality, but also the glimpses of hope and
dignity.”
