REBECA

Lima, 1993. One day, as Rebeca is crossing the street, she is hit by
a car and killed. She was a grandmother like so many others and,
like so many others, she had decided to tiptoe into the traffic of a city
that doesn’t have time to wait. In the meantime, images flash past
on the TV and there is always a man holding a pistol and threatening
a face filled with fear. In a world dominated by speed, it becomes
very important to know how to take one’s time and try to remember.

“Soon I realized that the project in which I was involved wasn’t as
simple as I thought. There was a radical subjectivity in this film that
I was not really aware of. The film started to become a kind of
audiovisual diary or a travellog, where I set a dialogue with Rebeca,
my grandmother. In this manner the documentary aspect of the project
and even its post-production in Germany became experimental.
In the end, the search I started was not finished and more than that,
it triggered a search for the self, for my own persona.”
