Oshima respectfully interviews Akira
Kurosawa. The story starts with his film
debut: Kurosawa wanted to become
a painter but at twenty-six years of age
he got his start in film by chance.
After his older brother committed
suicide, Kurosawa decided to look
for work and passed the exam
to become assistant director at the PCL
production company. Oshima is able
to encourage the director to give
a detailed accounting of the his personal
history, his films and his world
